Great piece as always, Justin! Though I have to admit that I’m not sure if political tribalism is quite as big of a factor in this debate as you suggest. I think regional tribalism may be the bigger issue here.

That said, I think what we really need on this issue is a little more creativity and innovation. Both sides have been tossing out the same arguments and the same policy proposals for decades. Rarely do we hear about potential new solutions that could actually muster bipartisan support and make a noticeable dent in gun violence. The GVRO is one such idea, but how many others have there been? All I ever hear from progressives is “ban this, that, and the other thing.” All I hear from conservatives is “no, no, and no.” They’re all talking past each other, and nothing constructive is ever going to get done until that changes.
