I agree that lootboxes fall into the “gambling” category, but I admit I’m a little worried about the implications of that. I don’t like the idea of developers having to grapple with government regulations related to games of chance, which is what I’m afraid is eventually going to happen with all MMOs. At the same time, I wonder if this wasn’t always inevitable. The whole microtransaction system seems to be begging for third-party oversight, so I suppose there’s no way to avoid that problem.
