If a politician is willing to disregard their own principles once those principles become politically inconvenient, then they never really believed in those principles at all, AFAIC. And it’s extraordinarily difficult to trust politicians who routinely demonstrate their willingness to sell out for the sake of their own careers. That lack of trust is one of the biggest reasons why I’m a lifelong Independent.
