This is so sad. Her longing for human connection is literally jumping off the page, and then you have the heartbreaking account of her interactions with Miner’s wife.

There’s nothing more depressing than an elderly person feeling alone and isolated in the last years of their life. I can’t think of a more cruel fate than that.

Up until now, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Mary’s motives were often less than pure. But after reading this post, I feel quite differently.
