You put it a bit more harshly than I would have, lol. But for the most part, you’ve pretty well captured my feelings on TLJ. It really is the overtly nihilistic tone of the film that I can’t get past. It’s just so inconsistent with the central themes not just of the OT, but of the franchise as a whole. Luke deserved better. As I mentioned in a different thread about this topic, I get that they needed to move on from the original cast so that this new group could get their chance to shine. But there were better ways of accomplishing that than what they did in TLJ.

That being said, I do still think it’s possible to salvage this trilogy. I don’t know how precisely to do it, but I’m holding out hope that J.J. Abrams finds a way. I just wish that Disney had waited to see the reactions from fans before giving Rian Johnson his own trilogy. He’s not a bad director or anything, but I don’t feel like he “gets” Star Wars. That’s just my humble opinion, though, and I would certainly be happy to be proven wrong about him.
